Zika Virus, A Sexually Transmitted Disease?­­­­­­­­

rashThe deadly zika virus which is now a global emergency is spread to people through mosquito bites .The most common symptoms of the zika virus disease include fever, skin rashes, joint pain, and conjunctivtis (red eyes).

Health officials confirm that the illness which is usually mild with symptoms lasting from several days to a week can equally be transmitted through sexual intercourse .Zika is carried by mosquitoes and has been linked to thousands of babies being born with under developed brains.

Apparently,it is spreading through the United States of America rapidly and the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the virus a global public health emergency.

However, the country worst hit by the disease outbreak-Brazil, has revealed it is investigating 3,670 suspected cases of microcephaly babies linked to the zika virus.Meanwhile,404 cases have so far been confirmed. Apart from a possible link to brain damage in babies, there have also been suspected cases of adult patients who suffered hearing loss. The zika virus is known to circulate in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and the Pacific. The deadly Zika virus has no specific treatment or vaccine available.

Health authorities adviced that, the best preventive measure to the virus is protection against mosquito bite and also having a protective sex.
